Essential Oils and Depression

Essential Oils and Depression

Applications:

Dilute oil of choice (as listed above) as recommend and massage into skin.
Diffuse (undiluted) into the air or add 1 drop to a cotton ball or tissue and inhale deeply.
*Family does NOT require additional dilution and CANNOT be used in a diffuser.

o   Depression often brings feelings of fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and a lack of enjoyment of things you normally find pleasurable. Mild depression keeps you from functioning well and feeling your best, but with treatment, symptoms usually subside. If depression persists despite natural treatments, seek professional help immediately (Althea, 118).

Cancer, Chemotherapy, Radiation and Essential Oils

While there is promising research on essential oils and cancer, it is important to note that at Selah Essential Oils we recommend aromatherapy (the use of essential oils) as a compliment to conventional treatments.

As always, everything you choose to do or use should be cleared with your licensed physician before use. This even applies to massage.

Body odor is embarrassing and sometimes inescapable. Most of the time there is no serious physical concern associated with it, but there are occasions where it can be caused as a result of some hidden illness. For persistent body odor, please see your licensed health professional.

Marjoram Essential Oil and Sleep

"The sedative properties of Marjoram must not be abused, for it can dull the senses and cause drowsiness, and in large amounts is stupefying.... As you might expect from this, Marjoram is a very good remedy for insomnia, especially when used, together with lavender, in a warm bath before bedtime."

Essential Oils and Adoption

Let's face it.  Parenthood is difficult.  But as a parent of both biological and adopted children, I can honestly tell you that adoption comes with a little more spice.

Adoption is Beautiful.
Adoption is hard.
It is beautifully hard.
There isn't any other way to describe it.

Adopted children have a history of neglect and trauma.  Even if they come from the absolute best foster family or facility, it still doesn't make up for the fact that they are missing what God intended for them in the first place: their birth mother and father.

If you have not adopted and are prayerfully considering to do so, or if you are in the process of adoption, please do not let this deter you from moving forward if it is God's will.

Essential Oils and Travel Essentials

I recently returned from traveling to China to adopt our fifth child.  Being the oily mama that I am, tried to think of everything I could possibly need while in China for 2.5 weeks. Not only were we going to be in China, but we were going to make several stops along the way there and back - AND while in China, too!  Phew!

Make Your Own Nontoxic Air-Freshening Granules With Essential Oils

Air-freshening granules are a wonderful way to add a fresh scent to your home. Unfortunately many of the commercially produced air-fresheners contain less-than-desirable ingredients.

This simple recipe uses nontoxic ingredients to emit a fresh, lasting fragrance.

Essential Oils and Candida or Thrush

Candida: Tea Tree, Lavender, Oregano, Armor, Clove, Peppermint, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus, Rosewood, Spearmint, Tummy Troubles, Resistance, Clarify, Rosemary, Thyme, Myrrh, Patchouli.
Application ideas:
Dilute oil of choice as recommend and apply on lower abdomen or bottoms of feet.
(Do not apply essential oils directly to sensitive areas- or inside the vagina!)

Candida albicans, also known as thrush, is a common problem affecting many people.  It commonly follows a round of antibiotics as these kill a lot of the helpful bacteria in the intestines.  Candida albicans lives in all of us, but under normal conditions the good bacteria in the intestines are able to keep the candida at a level to where it does not cause trouble.

Peppermint Essential Oil Helps Kill Viruses and Bacteria

"A hot bath containing 3 drops peppermint oil, 3 drops marjoram oil and 4 drops lavender oil in 1 teaspoon vegetable oil will warm and stimulate and will often avert a cold or influenza.  Drink a cup of peppermint and lemon tea while in the bath, to encourage perspiration and to help kill viruses and bacteria.  If an infection such as a feverish cold, bronchitis or influenza has already struck, peppermint oil will help loosen mucus and cool and reduce the fever."
Purchon, Nerys & Cantele, Lora.  The Complete Aromatherapy and Essential Oils Handbook for Everyday Wellness. (2014). p. 95

Peppermint Essential Oil & Headaches

"Cold compresses of Peppermint, or Peppermint and Lavender, applied to the forehead and temples will relieve headache, and sometimes migraine, though not all migraine sufferers can tolerate the smell once an attack has begun.  The compresses are most effective if they can be applied at the first sign of pain. Both these oils are painkillers, but while Peppermint is stimulant, Lavender is sedative.  The combination of stimulant and sedative is found in many commercial pain-killing preparations (asprin, phenatacin and caffeine for example), but with the important difference that essential oils do not merely suppress the pain, but work on its causes, such as blocked sinuses, a congested liver, or mental fatigue."

Davis, P. Aromatherapy an A-Z, (2000), p. 234
