Infectious Illnesses and Eucalyptus Globulus essential oil

"A steam inhalation with Eucalyptus is an effective natural treatment for colds, because it not only eases nasal congestion, but inhibits proliferation of the cold virus.  Eucalyptus used in AIRSPRAYS or any form of vaporisation during epidemics, will give a good measure of protection from ...
the infectious illnesses of childhood."

Davis, P. Aromatherapy an A-Z, (2000). p. 114

Peppermint Essential Oil Helps Kill Viruses and Bacteria

"A hot bath containing 3 drops peppermint oil, 3 drops marjoram oil and 4 drops lavender oil in 1 teaspoon vegetable oil will warm and stimulate and will often avert a cold or influenza.  Drink a cup of peppermint and lemon tea while in the bath, to encourage perspiration and to help kill viruses and bacteria.  If an infection such as a feverish cold, bronchitis or influenza has already struck, peppermint oil will help loosen mucus and cool and reduce the fever."
