Sandalwood Essential Oil Blend
(Santalum album)
Plant Origin: A blend of sandalwoods from East
India, West India, Indonesia, Africa and Australia.
Extraction Method: Steam distilled from the wood.

Uses:
Neurotonic and energizing oil to help relieve depression
and stimulate the mind (Price, 230).
Helps with dry, cracked fingertips when used in a blend
of 100ml carrier lotion, 25ml Shea butter, 15ml calendula oil with 5 drops each
of the following analgesic, anti-inflammatory and cicatrizant oils:
Frankincense, tea tree, and Sandalwood (Price, 285).
Used on infants for undue crying and nappy rash (Price,
249).

Improves dryness and elasticity of skin (Price, 270).
Traditionally used for bladder or urinary tract
infections (Schnaubelt, 29).
It can be used with warm compresses and massage to ease
cystitis and urethritis (Purchon, 108).
Sandalwood oil was used in a study (to help prevent skin
cancer) topically for twenty weeks and was found to decrease the incidence of
skin papillomas. (Schnaubelt, 157).
Sandalwood is a good oil to include in aftershave
preparations, as it prevents inflammation and has an aroma that is very
acceptable to men (Purchon, 108).
Use in compress or creams to heal dry eczema and acne and
to cool inflammations (Purchon, 108).
It is a pulmonary antiseptic; it also helps to loosen and
remove mucus. Use in inhalations and chest and throat rubs, where it will ease
chronic bronchitis, excess mucus, dry, irritating cough and sore throat
(Purchon, 108).
Other uses:
Aging skin, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, aphrodisiac,
asthma, bronchitis, calming, chest infection, cold, cough, depression,
irritability, nervousness, scarring, sedative, skin care, sore throat, uti,
wounds, wrinkles (Althea Press, 401).
Applications:
Topical: Apply to affected area,
temples, tip of nose, neck, so on as desired.
**Recommended Dilution:
Adults: 2-3
drops essential oil to 1/2 tsp of carrier oil (organic olive, jojoba, coconut,
almond oils, etc)
Children & Babies: For

Inhalation: Diffuse or rub a drop on palms
and inhale.
Internal: Approve by FDA as a food additive
and flavoring agent** -- For dosing instructions, seek the advice of a licensed
physician. Not intended for consumption with children under 6 years old. Use in
greater dilution for children over 6 years of age.
*It is important to remember the extreme concentration of
essential oils. One drop is all that is recommended for internal consumption.
"Using essential oils by rubbing them into the skin or via inhalation is
in many cases more effective than oral delivery" (Schnaubelt, 96).
Under-eye
therapy:
Cypress essential oil’s strong astringent quality makes
it ideal for reducing the bags and dark circles that tend to appear beneath the
eyes.
2 drops coconut carrier oil
2 drops cypress essential oil (other choices: frankincense, geranium,
myrrh, and sandalwood).

In a small bowl or in the palm of your hand,
add the coconut carrier oil and cypress essential oil (other oils listed above
that can be used).
2.
After cleansing the under-eye area, use a
cotton ball or your fingertip to gently apply the mixture.
3.
Repeat this treatment once a day at bedtime
until symptoms subside.

Sandalwood
Spritz:
Sandalwood essential oil helps promote healthy hair by
stimulating the scalp to produce more sebum, which is a natural oil that gives
hair its glossy appearance. As a bonus, this spritz smalls fantastic.
2 ounces purified water
10 drops argan carrier oil
20 drops sandalwood essential oil

In a dark-colored glass bottle fitted with a
spray top, add the water, argan carrier oil, and sandalwood essential oil, and
shake well to blend.

Generously spray wet or dry hair with the
blend and allow to dry.
3.
Repeat this treatment up to 3 times a day.
Shaking the bottle before each use.

Sandalwood
Gargle (can be used for sore throat due to strep throat):
Sandalwood essential oil helps stop infection while
soothing pain. You can also benefit by using it in the bathtub or shower. If
you do not have sandalwood essential oil, make this gargle with tea tree
essential oil instead.
1 ounce water
4 drops sandalwood essential oil

In a drinking glass, add the water and
sandalwood essential oil, and stir to combine.
2.
Gargle for at least 15 seconds.
3.
Repeat this treatment as needed until
symptoms subside.

Cautions:
May cause skin irritation if used undiluted.

If for any reason you get essential oils in your eyes,
put carrier oil along the eyebrows above the eyes and on the cheekbones
below the eyes.
Do not put essential oils inside your ear canal.
Sandalwood may cause drowsiness and should be avoided
