Essential Oils and Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are varicose veins in the rectum, caused by straining during bowel movements or while delivering a baby.  They can become itchy, swollen and painful.  It is best to treat hemorrhoids early on and drink plenty of water.  Treatment can include, but is not limited to, topical use of diluted essential oils, sitz baths and ice packs.

This article in Natural News gives many ideas for the natural treatment of hemorrhoids.

RECIPES:

Hemorrhoid Treatment:
2 drops Cypress essential Oil
2 drops Geranium essential oil
2 drops Peppermint essential oil
Dilute in 2 Tablespoons carrier oil and apply several times a day.
(Worwood, 271)

Hemorrhoid Gel:
1 tsp. Whitch Hazel (alcohol free)
2 drops Cypress essential oil
2 drops Juniper essential oil
2 drops Geranium essential oil
8 tsp unscented aloe vera gel

In a small glass jar with a lid, combine essential oils and witch hazel. Mix thoroughly.  Add gel and mix thoroughly to blend.  Store in a dark, cool place.  Stir well before each application. [if this blend stings, dilute with more aloe vera gel.] (Purchon, 241)

Sitz Bath:
1 tsp milk
2 drops Roman Chamomile essential oil
2 drops Juniper essential oil
2 drops Cedarwood essential oil
Mix essential oils and milk.  Fill a tub with just enough warm water to cover your bottom.  Add milk and essential oil mixture to water and agitate to disperse oil.  Soak for 10 to 15 minutes.  (Purchon, 241)

Follow by massaging with either the Hemorrhoid Gel or Hemorrhoid Treatment recipe above.
